Overview: This course is designed to equip professional emergency responders to provide effective psychological support to one’s self and other professional and consumer survivors of critical events (e.g. disasters, conflicts, accidents, etc); as well, to identify mitigation strategies for provider burnout, compassion fatigue, and vicarious traumatization, and PTSD.
 
Learning Objectives: Participants will:
  • Be able to identify 3 possible psychological responses to disaster.
  • Be able to accurately define burn-out, compassion fatigue, and vicarious traumatization in the emergency service response professional.
  • Be able to identify at least 3 new healthy activities that promote provider self-care and mitigate burn-out, compassion fatigue, and vicarious traumatization.
